Despite Petr Čech’s valiant performance, Arsenal lost to Chelsea 1-4 in the UEL final disputed in Baku, Azerbaijan.

“I really wanted to lift the trophy in the air. It was my last footballing dream. But I have to admit, our opponent was better, Chelsea deserved to win.”
Such a shame.

Petr’s spectacular career spanning 20 years begged for a more fairy-tale ending.

“I did all that was in my power to help my team win; unfortunately, in football, that’s often not enough. It’s a great disappointment, all the more painful for me because I know there will never be another game. No more matches, no more finals, nothing.”

“No. Nothing can shake my conviction. I’ve made up my mind. I’m 37 years old and I think this is the right time. I want to thank you all for the support that helped me push forward in my career. It provided me with motivation to always strive to be better. And now, let me say good-bye. I’m retiring from active football, I will never play another game, you can trust me on that. This is the end of something beautiful, but something new is about to begin, and I know that the memories I’ve made will stay with me forever.
